George Canyon with Daily Bread staff after filming for CMT’s Gift of Giving special.
Country Music Television’s holiday special, CMT’s Gift of Giving, will be airing on tv for the first time Thursday night on CMT at 8 p.m. Hosted by George Canyon, with special guests including Chantal Kreviazuk, Barenaked Ladies, Great Big Sea and Jimmy Rankin, this musical special will also be helping to raise awareness about food banks and hunger.
Daily Bread was lucky enough to have George Canyon onsite at our food bank and warehouse in early November, learning more about how hunger is affecting families and what Daily Bread is doing about it. You can see for yourself some of the great work staff and volunteers are doing Thursday night, but the special will be repeated during the month of December on CMT, OWN, YTV and W Network. You find out more about when and where it’s airing here: CMT Gift of Giving Holiday Special Air Times.
The Gift of Giving CD includes the performers mentioned above, as well as holiday-themed tracks from performers such as Rascal Flatts and Darius Rucker. Proceeds from the sale of this CD will benefit food banks across Canada. The CD is available for purchase on iTunes and your local music stores.

Canstruction is an annual event that helps fight hunger by bringing together Toronto’s architectural and engineering community to create structures out of canned food that are then donated to Daily Bread Food Bank. Since 1999, Canstruction has helped raise almost 700,000 pounds of food. From today until Friday, you can see these amazing structures on display in a number of buildings in downtown Toronto, including the TD Tower and the Design Exchange. For more information, check out the Canstruction website.
