Because hunger doesn't wait for policy change.

Black Friday? How about Giving Tuesday?

Tired of Black Friday already? How about creating a new tradition and giving back to charities in your community with Giving Tuesday?

On December 3, charities across the country are encouraging people to give back by donating or volunteering their time this holiday season. December 3 is the ‘opening day of the giving season’!     DSC_0146

Giving Tuesday began in the United States in 2012 and helped online giving increase by over 50%. That’s a lot of charities able to do a lot more good in the community. For Daily Bread, it means we can provide more nutritious food to people who are struggling with hunger. It means we can continue to help people with other issues, such as social assistance, affordable housing, employment and disabilities through programs like Information and Referral Services, our Food Services Training Program and our Community Garden. It means we can expand successful programs like that to our member agencies to help even more people to the point where they no longer need a food bank.

And don’t forget to donate to Daily Bread. You can drop off non-perishable food donations to your local fire hall, or donate online by clicking here. Our Holiday Drive runs until December 31st, and we’re looking to raise $2.5 million and 1 million pounds of food. Help us fight hunger and feed families this winter.

It’s that time of year again! CBC’s Sounds of the Season, a fundraiser for local food banks in the GTA, is set to kick off officially on Friday, December 6.

A live, full day of radio broadcasts from the Glenn Gould studio, along with special guests and musical performances, starts at 5 a.m. and finishes at 6:30 p.m. There is also a silent auction, book signings and celebrity meet and greets all day in the atrium. Come drop by 250 Front St. West on December 6, along with a donation! Can’t make it down? You can listen to CBC Radio 99.1FM to hear shows like Metro Morning and Here and Now.

You can also make a donation to Daily Bread through Sounds of the Season online by clicking here.

Kevin Sylvester is once again creating lino cuts, that are available to people who make a donation of $100 or more on December 6 (and only on December 6!). He makes a limited number, and does run out. This year his lino cut will feature the clock tower of old city hall. You can take a sneak peek at his lino cut here on his blog, or find out more about how he created the printing blocks for his lino cut at  ArtHeart Community Art Center.
