Food of the Month: Fight Hunger with Fish!

Not sure what to donate to Daily Bread? How about canned fish?

One of our most needed food items, canned fish is an excellent source of protein, a good source of vitamins and provides the energy you need for the day. It’s also September’s food of the month! We’re asking people to donate canned fish – tuna, salmon, mackerel or sardines this month to help fight hunger.

Donations of canned fish can be dropped at your local fire hall, or a participating grocery store.

Did you know? Last year, Daily Bread distributed almost 185,000 pounds of canned fish out to meal programs and food banks across Toronto.

Not sure what to donate? Choose canned fish for September, or any of our upcoming food of the month items.

September: Canned Fish – tuna, salmon, mackerel or sardines.

October: Tomato Pasta Sauce (canned): Low sodium pasta sauce preferred. Please donate cans! Glass jars have a habit of breaking.

November: Canned or dried beans. There are over 1400 kinds of beans in the world. Choose your favourite and donate! Here are just a few examples: lentils, kidney beans, chick peas, black beans, navy beans and pinto beans.

December: Peanut Butter
