Daily Bread Food Bank offers a 16-week Food Services Training Program at its warehouse in South Etobicoke. Four professional cook instructors work with and train up to 10 trainees per session in an industrial size kitchen that operates both Daily Bread’s onsite cafeteria (serving 100-150 people, Monday to Friday) and a production room for prepared meals which are sent to member agency meal programs throughout the city (approx. 3000-4000 servings per week).
This program touches on the many basic aspects of the food services industry. There are training rotations in all of the following areas: cleaning of dishes, equipment and floors, ingredient preparation, agency meal production, cashier, cafeteria service, baking, and hot and cold meal production.
There is also a job search component to the program which assists trainees in résumé writing, interviewing skills, time, stress, and conflict management, and basic MS Word and Internet training. The job searching component is up to 12 hours per week and may vary according to the needs of the
trainee. It is unpaid, but will be an invaluable asset upon entering the workforce.

Trainees participate in the Food Services Training Program for up to 16 weeks and Daily Bread Food Bank will assist them in securing permanent employment in the community when they are ready. Please note that permanent positions are not available at Daily Bread Food Bank following the program.
This program seeks trainees on an on-going basis. We are looking for individuals to work in our modern, well-equipped kitchen. Intake of trainees occurs on a regular basis, so there is no deadline for application.
