Member Agencies

2014-AR-Map

Daily Bread Food Bank provides food through a network of 129 member agencies and 170 food programs. These programs vary and include programs for expecting mothers, seniors and children, meal programs and drop-in centres. Daily Bread relies on the dedication and commitment of the volunteers and staff at each agency to ensure that people coming to food banks are welcomed and treated with dignity and respect. Our agencies recognize the need for healthy food in addition to support for the reason people lack food in the first place: poverty.

Our member agencies can be found in neighbourhoods across Toronto. Each area has a Community Engagement Coordinator who works with agencies to respond to and serve their unique community needs. Thank you to all of our amazing member agencies across Toronto who have helped make such a difference in peoples’ lives.

Food distribution programs fall into the following categories:

1. Grocery Programs, where clients receive a two to three day supply of non-prepared food to take home. Foods may include non-perishable, canned and dried items, fresh produce, and fresh or powdered milk.

  • Neighbourhood food banks that are open to everyone and serve their surrounding community.
  • Multi-service agency food banks that serve clients accessing a particular agency only, such as a Community Health Centre or Women’s Program.
  • Tenant food programs. These member-run programs are operated for small communities, normally a building or group of buildings, where clients may be facing challenges getting to their regular neighbourhood food bank or have special needs. These programs incorporate a community development approach with an emphasis on leadership skills.
  • Prenatal programs. These programs, for young expectant and new moms, distribute nutritious items for both mom and baby.
  • Red Cross Mobile Food Bank Program. Elderly people and people with short- and long-term disabilities who experience mobility challenges and cannot walk to their local food bank may be able to arrange food bank delivery by calling the Red Cross at: (416) 480-2500. More information on the Red Cross Mobile Food Bank.

2. Meal programs which serve prepared meals including breakfasts and snacks include:

  • Hostels & shelters
  • Drop-in centres
  • After school programs for children
  • Community meals
