Part of Daily Bread Food Bank’s ongoing mission has always been focused on the ‘why’ in order to determine innovative solutions to poverty and hunger. Daily Bread has been instrumental in advocating for social assistance reform and a proposed housing benefit; and the successful introduction of an Ontario Child Benefit and the implementation of a new poverty measure, the Ontario Deprivation Index.
Each year, Daily Bread releases the well-known Who’s Hungry report. Based on a survey of people coming to food banks across Toronto, this comprehensive report looks beyond the numbers to explore the reasons why people are going hungry in the first place and what solutions are required.
Over 1000 food bank clients across Toronto were interviewed and over 30 food banks participated last year thanks to the assistance from member agencies of Daily Bread Food Bank and North York Harvest Food Bank.
