Agency Spotlight: Women’s Health in Women’s Hands

Women’s Health in Women’s Hands Community Health Centre is a Daily Bread Member Agency that has been committed to serving their racialized clients and their families in Toronto through their Chakula Bora Food Bank for over 20 years!

Their mandate is to provide primary healthcare to women from the African, Black, Caribbean, Latin American and South Asian communities in Toronto. They are committed to working from an inclusive feminist, pro-choice, anti-racist, anti-oppression, and multilingual participatory framework to reduce the impacts of food insecurity and address the barriers that prevent women from being in excellent health.

Volunteers in the Chakula Food Bank

Many people in their community live in precarious living circumstances and experience the effects of intersectional determinants of health all of which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Over this past year, the Chakula Bora Food Bank has seen a dramatic increase in the number of new clients with families accessing their services, and so for every client supporting a household between three and five family members, means that the reach of their support is far and wide.

“The Team at Daily Bread has enabled us to keep our Food Bank doors open during the COVID19 pandemic and we are filled with gratitude as we continue to advocate and support the women in all of our communities.”

Daily Bread is proud to support the wonderful work of our agency network, ensuring that everyone has access to the food and resources they need during the most difficult times.
