Everyone deserves access to food without judgment, without stigma, and in a way that respects their dignity.
At Daily Bread Food Bank, we see every day that food insecurity isn’t a personal failure. It’s what happens when systemic barriers continue to push people further into poverty as the cost of living outpaces income, when unexpected expenses hit, or when housing and groceries become impossible to balance. More than one in ten Torontonians now rely on food banks to put food on the table, underscoring how widespread and urgent this crisis has become.
That’s why we are proud to be part of Give 30 — a grassroots initiative built on compassion, dignity and unity, where people, regardless of background, come together in common humanity for a common purpose. This year, the campaign runs from February 11 to April 30.
Created in 2012 by the Toronto lawyer Ziyaad Mia, Give 30 is rooted in social solidarity, a major principle of Ramadan, the time when practicing Muslims fast from dawn to sunset.
“Anyone who has fasted will tell you what a powerful experience it is,” said Ziyaad. “You endure for a day, and then you realize, I know I’ll be eating at sunset. But that person on the street, his sunset may never come. Or it’s going to come days from now.”
It is with those values, and in the spirit of Ramadan, that we invite you to stand in solidarity with those in need in our city. Together, we can be a source of hope. Every dollar you donate will enable Daily Bread to provide one meal to Torontonians facing hunger across our city. And, thanks to generous support from Premium Uniforms, your donation will be matched – doubling the impact of your gift.*
Give to Daily Bread’s Give 30 campaign today. Your support helps ensure more neighbours can access the food they need with dignity — today and in the days ahead.
*up to $15,000
Ramadan is expected to begin the night of February 18 and will end the evening of March 19 this year, but you can donate to Give 30 through April 30.
