On May 30, Daily Bread Food Bank proudly hosted its first-ever Open House, welcoming hundreds of community members, supporters, and partners for a behind-the-scenes look at the work that helps support people facing hunger across Toronto.
Throughout the day, attendees were invited to drop in and explore the journey of food in action through guided tours, where they could see firsthand how food is received, sorted, packed, and distributed to help meet the growing need in our community.
Visitors had the chance to engage with interactive stations hosted by teams from across Daily Bread, where they learned more about our operations, history, clients, and the realities of food insecurity in Toronto. Attendees also explored our fleet of trucks, enjoyed fun photo opportunities, watched kitchen demonstrations, sampled delicious food, and discovered more about our advocacy efforts to address the root causes of hunger and poverty.
The event also featured a special on-site broadcast with Chloe Bernabei from the KiSS 92.5 team, adding to the excitement and helping share the day’s activities with the broader community.
Reflecting on the success of the event, Daily Bread CEO Neil Hetherington shared, “We’re proud to welcome hundreds of attendees to see how we feed the need in Toronto and why we continue to advocate so that the more than one in ten Torontonians who relies on food bank support, no longer needs to.”
The Open House provided an opportunity for visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the scale of food insecurity in Toronto and the collective effort required to support those facing hunger. Most importantly, it created meaningful connections between community members and the mission that drives Daily Bread every day.
