At Daily Bread Food Bank, we’re grateful for partners who share our vision of a city where everyone has access to the food they need.
Among those partners is WDI Wise Device Inc. (WDI), whose generosity and commitment have helped strengthen our work since 2020. Their latest contribution of $50,000 marks a significant milestone in that partnership and brings WDI’s total giving to more than $85,000 over the past five years. At a time when food insecurity is reaching unprecedented levels, this support will help ensure that families across our city can access the food they need.
Founded in 2005 by Dr. Adam Weiss, WDI is an Ontario-based company that engineers and manufactures innovative OEM microscopy automation components. WDI’s technology provides a competitive advantage to companies in many global markets including Genomics and DNA Sequencing, High Content Screening, Flat Panel Display Inspection and Semiconductor Manufacturing.
We recently welcomed members of the WDI team, including the Weiss family, to Daily Bread for a tour and cheque presentation, with our CEO, Neil Hetherington. The visit offered an opportunity to share the impact of their generosity and provide a firsthand look at the scale of our operations as we respond to record levels of food insecurity.
The team shared that, “The Weiss family and WDI have always believed that building a successful business comes with a responsibility to the people around you. This donation is just the most recent example—$50,000 toward making sure families in our community don’t go hungry.”
For the Weiss family, giving back is rooted in gratitude and a desire to support local communities. “Now that we’re in a position to give back, whether it’s through the food bank or other community initiatives, we feel a real responsibility to do so,” said WDI President, Halszka Weiss. “If we’re able to help, we should help. Supporting families in Toronto and the surrounding communities is incredibly important to us.”
Last year, food bank visits in Toronto reached a record 4.1 million—more than half a million higher than the previous year and a staggering 340% increase since 2019. During their visit, the WDI team gained a deeper appreciation for both the scale of the need and the vital role community support plays in helping Daily Bread provide nutritious food to those facing hunger. We are deeply thankful to the Weiss family and everyone at WDI for their continued generosity, compassion, and commitment to helping build a stronger community.
