Board of Directors
Daily Bread Food Bank is run by a volunteer board of directors elected annually by its member agencies.
Daily Bread tries to ensure the board reflects the composition of the wider community, including representation from member agencies and people experiencing low-income.
Andy Burgess, Chair
Andy Burgess is the Managing Director of Russell Square Partners, a Toronto private equity firm that invests in growing Canadian companies. He co-founded Somerset Entertainment, a producer and distributor of specialty music and was its CEO from 1994 to 2010. During that time, the company grew from a private label to a public, diversified music company with over 200 employees selling to 20 countries. He is currently a board member for a number of companies including Slater Asset Management, Pluck Tea and Hamburg Honda. Andy believes in supporting our community and has a distinct passion for ensuring equal access to food for everyone in Toronto, independent of their financial means. He is the former Chair of the Board of Trustees for Sanctuary Ministries, a Daily Bread Food Bank member agency and is currently a Board Member with Camp Oochigeas. Andy and his wife, Beth, are proud parents of Charlie, Sarah and Campbell.
Sarah Diebel, Vice-Chair
Sarah Diebel is a lawyer with experience in both employment law and corporate/commercial law. She is currently working as legal counsel at Independent Electricity System Operator (formerly the Ontario Power Authority), and prior to that worked at Bruce Power and several Toronto-based law firms. Sarah has a longstanding interest and involvement in social justice issues. During her LL.B studies, she completed a concentration in Law and Social Justice, which included research and academic writing related to the Ontario Works Program, Aboriginal access to health care and legalization of prostitution. She has been a member of Amnesty International for many years, and looks forward to utilizing her legal and business expertise in the fight against poverty and hunger.
J. Ian Giffen, Treasurer
J. Ian Giffen serves as a Corporate Director to technology companies and investment funds. Ian is currently a Director of Absolute Software Inc. (ABT.TSX), Kinaxis Inc. (KXS.TSX) and a number of private companies. Ian is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario) and has a Designation in Corporate Finance. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. He has a passionate interest in supporting organizations that enable people to overcome disadvantages to achieve independence and financial stability, and has served with a number of charitable organizations and is currently on the board of CAMH.
Adam Baksh, Secretary
Adam Baksh has a background in food industry supply chain consulting, specializing in improving logistics, delivery infrastructure and change management. He has previously worked with Kraft, General Mills, Campbell’s, Proctor Gamble, Loblaw and other major suppliers. He is excited to make a major commitment to volunteering at this point in his career.
Aisha Ansari is currently employed with Deloitte Economics as a Senior Associate. Prior to joining Deloitte, Aisha worked with the Government of Ontario in public policy, specializing in economics. Aisha is fluent in multiple languages. She has volunteered in the not-for-profit sector as a Board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters Halton and as a United Way fundraiser.
Jennifer Bond is currently the Director of Labour Relations and Legal Counsel for the Toronto Community Housing Corporation. She has worked with TCHC since 2012 and prior to that was an associate at McMillan LLP in Employment and Labour Relations. Jennifer has a lot of experience in providing legal opinions and recommendations on human resource policies, procedures and employee relations, which often result in positive employment relationships.
Neil Bowden is the Director of Finance for Canada Goose. Prior to working with Canada Goose Neil worked with KPMG. He has more than ten years of experience providing financial statement audit and accounting services to public and non-public companies in Chicago and Toronto. Neil has served on engagement teams for a diverse range of clients, including multinational consumer products manufacturers and distributors, start-up ventures, retailers, and global mining companies. Services delivered to these clients have included annual audits of financial statements and interim review procedures, often requiring management of multi-disciplinary global client service teams; review of and assistance with SEC filings, including registration statements associated with equity offerings; and auditing and advising on accounting for acquisitions.
Karen Hsiung is the Director of Marketing at Bellisio Foods Canada, where she oversees brand marketing, innovation and research for frozen food products. With over 20 years in the consumer-packaged goods industry, Karen has worked on market-leading brands including Michelina’s, Glad, Brita, Ocean Spray, Centrum, and Schweppes. She has a passionate interest in Women in Leadership and is a former Regional Officer with the Network of Executive Women (Toronto Chapter), whose mission is to advance women in the retail and consumer industry. Karen is now excited to contribute to Daily Bread and its fight against food insecurity in Toronto.
Bonnie Matthews is the Operations Manager at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto (NCCT). Bonnie brings front-line experience working for a Daily Bread Food Bank member organization that serves the needs and interests of people living in poverty, including managing the NCCT’s food program. Bonnie is devoted to improving client service and providing safe and inclusive access to nutritious food for those experiencing food insecurity.
Regan McGee is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nobul Corporation, an innovative technology company that has created a revolutionary online real estate trading marketplace operating throughout North America. Regan brings 20 years of experience running complex organizations and empowering his employees to achieve outstanding success. Prior to inventing and founding Nobul, he ran his own real estate investment company (McGee Capital) and served in senior roles at Brookfield, BMO and Dundee. Regan is an Economist, Broker of Record and Chartered Investment Manager by training. Regan has served passionately on the boards and committees of large financial institutions, the North York General Hospital and several not-for-profit organizations.
Anthony Santilli is the Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Bullfrog Power, Canada’s 100% Green Energy Company. Anthony brings 20 plus years of progressive marketing and business experience in small start-ups and large established businesses, with emphasis on marketing and general business principles. Anthony has been a dedicated supporter of the Daily Bread Food Bank both in his professional and family life.
Victor Willis is the Executive Director at PARC (Parkdale Activity – Recreation Centre), a Daily Bread Food Bank member agency. Victor has extensive experience working in not-for-profit organizations, including York Support Services Network, Gerstein Crisis Centre, Trinity Square Café Enterprises and The 519 Church Street Community Centre. He also has in-depth governance, strategic planning and financial management experience as a volunteer Director on a number of not-for-profit Boards. Victor believes that, in a time of growing challenges, Daily Bread Food Bank can play a crucial role in developing and increasing the overall capacity to respond to hunger by building collaborative networks with other like-minded organizations.
Mark Wilson is Executive Vice President of Human Resources & Labour Relations at Loblaw Companies Limited. He joined Loblaw in December of 2006. Mark is responsible for developing and delivering the people portion of the business strategy. Mark has enjoyed a progressive 23-year career in Human Resources and Labour Relations, in four different industries – Telecommunications, Food Service Retail/Quick Service Restaurants, Death Care and most recently Grocery Retail. He began his career in 1990 as a Union Business Agent with the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 175.
Ben Wise is an Account Executive for Media Platforms at Google, where he manages online advertising and develops new programs to expand Google product delivery. Ben has co-founded and acted as President for SpringTern, a website connecting students and small business for volunteer work projects, and founded and acted as Executive Director of Step By Step Africa, a grassroots organization that plans and implements HIV/AIDS testing and treatment programs in Ghana and Uganda.
Christine Yip is the Founder of Organizations for Impact, an organization aimed at building the organizational capacity of organizations across the not for profit, public, and private sectors to improve the social impact they are having in their communities. Christine previously held a variety of roles, including Management Consulting positions at both Accenture and KPMG, as well as research positions at the University of Toronto’s Mowat Centre and the London School of Economics’ Centre for Analysis and Social Exclusion. She holds a Masters Degree in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics and a Masters in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the University of Guelph.
