Celebrating Our Incredible Volunteers

May 13, 2022

Volunteers are at the heart of what we do each day at Daily Bread Food Bank. Collectively donating nearly 490,000 hours this past year, our incredible volunteers have helped to prepare meals, sort and pack food donations, keep our on-site food bank stocked, and overall, help keep our day-to-day operation running smoothly.

So, throughout National Volunteer Week, we took the opportunity to celebrate and thank the thousands of individuals who give their time so generously.

“I want to thank each and every one of our volunteers that have donated their time to help realize the right to food for everyone in our community. Thank you on behalf of the Board of directors, the staff and most importantly, the clients that you serve.”

-Neil Heatherington, CEO, Daily Bread Food Bank

This year saw our first in-person Volunteer Awards celebration since the beginning of the pandemic. During an evening filled with great food, entertainment and fun mocktails, we took some time to shine a light on ten very special volunteers whose sprit of empathy and generosity of time propels us closer to our vision of a hunger-free city. Jointly, these incredible volunteers have donated nearly 47,000 hours to Daily Bread over the last nine months.

We would like to congratulate and extend a very special thanks to the following Volunteer Award Recipients:

  • Alex Lascu – Production
  • Sarah Oakley– Welcome Centre
  • Leo Martins – Production
  • Joanne MacKenzie– New Toronto Street Food Bank
  • Mark Hallman– Information & Referrals
  • Alberta Chiarcossi– New Toronto Street Food Bank
  • Bill Desborough– Production
  • Elizabeth Holloway – Production
  • Kathleen Roulston – Development
  • Agostino Comello– Production and warehouse

We would like to express our most heartfelt thanks to each and every one of our volunteers for their dedication and commitment. Together, we are working towards our common goal of ending food insecurity and poverty in our communities.
