Calling all Swifties! This November, 22 street signs will designate the path from Rogers Centre to Nathan Phillips Square as “Taylor Swift Way” to honour the superstar when her Eras Tour lands in our city.
The signs will run along portions of John Street and Queen Street West. After showgoers shake it off at the concert venue, they’ll be able to walk along Taylor Swift Way to see the square’s Toronto sign lit up in the singer’s signature shade of red.
But what happens to the honorary street signs at the month’s end, when we’re back to December? When city council approved this street-renaming motion, they decided that the signs would be donated to Daily Bread Food Bank to raise money for the fight to end hunger. We need the support now more than ever — the food insecurity crisis is raging on, with 1 in 10 people in Toronto now turning to food banks in order to make ends meet. That’s over 300,000 unique individuals served in 2023.
We thank the city for donating the signs to our cause. We don’t know about you, but we’re feeling 22 street signs are a fantastic way to put food on empty tables now and advocate for policies that will end poverty in the future.
