David’s story of hope and new beginnings

For David, the holidays have always been about family, connection and sharing meals together.

Growing up in Cameroon, family gatherings meant coming together with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, often around a table filled with food. “Almost every meal is a feast,” he recalls.

When David, his wife and their five children moved to Canada, they hoped to build a brighter future, with greater opportunities for education, health care and professional growth. But starting over wasn’t easy.

Adjusting to a new country, finding housing and securing steady employment came with unexpected challenges. With seven mouths to feed and limited income, putting nutritious meals on the table became a financial struggle.

A member of their church introduced them to Norseman Community Food Bank — a Daily Bread Agency. Although initially hesitant to ask for support, David was surprised by the warm welcome his family received.

Through the food bank, they could access fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products and other nutritious essentials. Occasionally, hygiene products like toothpaste and soap were also available, helping stretch their limited budget further.

More importantly, they were treated with dignity and respect.

Today, David is working toward a more stable future, pursuing new career opportunities and further education. He hopes to one day give back to the community that supported him when his family needed it most. “I want to reach a point in time when I will also be a donor,” he shares.

And he has a heartfelt message for Daily Bread supporters: “They might not know, but they are saving lives. They are giving a lot of hope to families, to people.”

By donating this holiday season, your generosity can help ensure more neighbours across Toronto have access to nutritious food, dignity and hope for the future.
