Give Back This Thanksgiving: Purolator Red Bag Campaign

September 16, 2022

On Saturday, September 24, a legion of volunteers will be blanketing three Toronto neighbourhoods with 25,000 empty red bags, ready to be filled with food for people experiencing hunger this holiday season.

This is the fourth annual Purolator Red Bag Campaign in support of Daily Bread Food Bank, and part of Purolator’s nationwide Tackle Hunger program.

This year we’re targeting 50,000 pounds in food donations so we can help set Thanksgiving tables at a time when food-bank use has catapulted to record highs.

Here’s how the campaign works:

  • If you live in Roncesvalles, the Annex, or Danforth/Riverdale, look out for our amazing volunteers dropping off Purolator Red Bags by your door on Saturday, September 24
  • Over the next week, fill up the bag with some of our most-needed items: canned fish/fruits/veggies/tomatoes, oatmeal and nut butters
  • Leave the full bag on your front step by noon on Saturday, October 1, and Purolator volunteer drivers will pick them up for delivery to the Daily Bread warehouse
  • If you miss our pickup deadline, you can drop off your bag with nonperishable food items at your nearest fire hall

If you don’t live in one of these neighbourhoods but you’d like to help, you can donate funds to this campaign online.

Our deepest thanks to Purolator for their longstanding commitment to the fight against hunger, and to our wonderful volunteers for dedicating their time and efforts to making this campaign a success.

With your help, we’ll be able to fill our warehouse and ensure that everyone has access to the food they need this Thanksgiving.
