You may receive up to $2,400 per year ($200 per month). The amount depends on several factors, including your income, marital status, employment, and other considerations. Visit the government website to use the CDB Estimator Tool and find out how much you might receive.
What do I need in order to submit my CDB application?
If you have the Disability Tax Credit and meet all the other eligibility requirements, you should receive a letter in the mail with a six-digit code to apply.
Along with this six-digit code, you’ll also need your Social Insurance Number (SIN), mailing address and banking information (branch number, institution number and account number).
If you didn’t receive a letter, you can still apply.
In this case, in addition to your Social Insurance Number, mailing address and banking information, you’ll also need your net income amount (line 23600 on your 2024 Notice of Assessment).
How and when do I apply?
You can apply in four ways:
Online: Apply through the government portal; this is the fastest option.
Phone: Call Service Canada at 1-833-486-3007.
In person: Visit a Service Canada Office.
By mail: Complete, print and mail the application form labelled SC-CDB0004 found on this page and downloadable through this link.
Applications opened on June 20, but you can apply at any time. If you were eligible earlier but didn’t apply, you may receive retroactive payments from June 2025.
What happens when I submit my application?
Service Canada will review your application.
You’ll receive a decision letter within 28 days. If you applied through a legal representative, it may take longer.
To check your application status, contact Service Canada.
Don’t agree with the decision?
You can request a reconsideration within180 days of receiving the decision.
If you still disagree, you can file an appeal.
When can I expect the payment and how will I receive it?
Payments begin one month after your application is received and approved.
Payments come on the third Thursday of each month. You can view the full list of payment dates by clicking on Canada Disability Benefit on this Government of Canada webpage.
If your total benefit payment for the year is less than $240, you’ll receive a lump sum payment.
