One year in, the Farm to Food Bank
program still growing
Walmart Foundation funds this exciting pilot project
Working to remove barriers to fresh food, Daily Bread’s Farm to Food Bank program provides local produce to people in need.
To date this year, a network of farms across Ontario have generously donated more than 500,000 pounds of produce and counting, making it possible to have over 25 types of fresh fruits and vegetables available at food banks and meal programs across Toronto.

“The idea of supplying fresh produce for so many people is so satisfying,”
says Miriam Worley of Chary Produce, a farm ‘partner’ in Oakland Ontario. “It’s also fostering a closer connection between city and country to show the bounty available right here in our own back yard.”
By diverting ‘perfectly imperfect’ produce to food insecure communities, the Farm to Food Bank program also significantly reduces food loss from farms across Ontario.
This combination of social and environmental good is one the Walmart Foundation is proud to stand behind. In January 2018, the Walmart Foundation announced funding of over $889,000 in support of the Farm to Food Bank program.
This investment will help increase capacity for distribution and bring us closer to our goal of distributing over 1 million pounds of donated produce to food programs across Toronto this year.
We thank the Walmart Foundation and all our farm and greenhouse partners for helping our Farm to Food Bank program reach this incredible goal!
