By the Numbers: Daily Bread Food Distribution

In October, Daily Bread Food Bank served the highest number of clients in the history of our organization with over 100,000 visits to our network of food banks.

Daily Bread Food Bank is a member-based organization providing food to 173 food programs and 118 agencies across Toronto, including food banks and drop-in meal programs. Over the last 8 months our operations team has been working tirelessly to ensure that all of our food deliveries go out on time, and that we have enough food to meet the increase in demand, due to COVID-19.

With the support of our incredible donors, volunteers, and partners, we have been able to continue to meet the increased needs in our communities, and ensure everyone’s right to food is being realized.

Food Distribution by the Numbers:

  • Since the COVID-19 crisis was declared in March, through November, Daily Bread has distributed 15.4 million pounds of food, a 46% increase year over year.
  • Prior to COVID-19, the average monthly food purchasing spend was $131,000. In October and November of this year, it was $350,000 – over two and a half times more.
  • Daily Bread Food Bank is currently on pace to spend three times as much on food purchasing this fiscal year – $5 million versus $1.5 million. Given the growing demand, we anticipate this number growing.

The economic impacts of COVID-19 will continue to be felt for years to come. Food is a human right and we remain committed to meeting the immediate and ongoing needs of our communities by providing food relief while we advocate for long-term, systemic solutions to end poverty and food insecurity.
