Join the Give 30 Movement

May 21, 2019

Small acts. Big impact.

One Ramadan years ago, Ziyaad Mia realized that he was saving money from fasting because he was not having lunch, coffee and snacks during the day.  A light bulb went on and he decided to use the opportunity to help others.

From this simple idea, Give 30 was born as a grassroots initiative to fight hunger in 2012.

Inspired by the spirit of social solidarity, Give 30 mobilizes communities in Canada, the United States and Australia to support those in need during the month of Ramadan.  Today, the campaign supports 19 organizations and has raised more than $1 million.

Everyone, regardless of faith or background, can join the Give 30 movement by donating savings from fasting or making small sacrifices such as cutting back on nights out, lattes or snacks for 30 days.

The simple act of giving something up and giving back to the community will have an enormous impact on families and individuals struggling to put food on the table. For every dollar you save and donate, Daily Bread is able to provide one nourishing meal to someone in need.

Not fasting? There are other ways you can contribute!

Here are five easy ways to save and donate:

  • Brown bag your lunch

Plan ahead to prepare your lunches at home instead of going out to eat.

  • Make your own coffee

Skip your daily coffee run and make your own at home or work for a fraction of the price.

  • Unsubscribe to unused memberships

Examine your monthly memberships and cancel any subscriptions you are not using.

  • Save your loose change

For the month of Ramadan, empty your wallet at the end of the day to collect loose change.

  • Change your commute

Try walking or cycling to work. If you live further away, carpooling is another way to cut down on gas costs.

Ramadan ends on June 3, but you can contribute to Give 30 until August 31, 2019.
