Toronto Made a Miracle Happen

January 18, 2021

‍On December 5ᵗʰ at 10am, residents of Toronto were invited to leave a non-perishable food item on their doorstep for Miracle Day, a grassroots initiative started by community members who were concerned about the impact that COVID-19 was having on our city.

Inspired by similar events held in Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, and Montreal, the ask was simple; if every household in Toronto were to leave just one item of food on their front porch, the impact that could have across the city would be massive.

Over 6,000 people donated 210,000 pounds of food which was collected by 2,500 volunteers in a single day! That’s about equal to the weight of 9 Daily Bread trucks!

Donations collected went directly to Daily Bread Food Bank, as well as to North York Harvest Food Bank, Second Harvest, and other local neighbourhood organizations which combined, provide food to over 350 community agencies across the GTA.

On behalf of the staff, volunteers, and most importantly the clients of Daily Bread Food Bank, THANK YOU to everyone who organized this incredible day of giving back, donated food, volunteered their time and spread the word!
