Ways to get involved this holiday season

The holiday season is a time for giving, gratitude, and community—an ideal moment to support those in need. Daily Bread Food Bank offers several meaningful ways to get involved and make a difference for the more than one in ten Torontonians relying on food banks.

Host a food drive or fundraiser

Hosting a food drive or fundraiser is a simple yet impactful way to support Daily Bread. Whether you’re an individual, a group of friends, part of a workplace, or a school, Daily Bread provides all the tools you need to make your event a success.

Visit the Start a Food Drive or Fundraising Event page to download resources, including a toolkit with creative ideas and a print-ready list of most-needed items. You can even create a fundraising page to track donations and engage your supporters. Remember, every $1 raised provides one meal to someone in need!

Volunteer your time

As food bank use continues to climb, so does the need for volunteers to pick orders in the warehouse, and stock the on-site food bank.

Take part in Make the Season Kind

CBC Toronto’s annual Make the Season Kind campaign (formerly Sounds of the Season) supports local food banks through fundraising initiatives and raising awareness about food insecurity through radio and television stories. You can contribute by donating funds or food, attending live CBC broadcasts, engaging in the CBC School Challenge, or incorporating the “12 Days of Giving” into your holiday traditions.

Advocate for poverty-reducing policies

With food bank usage at record-breaking levels in Toronto, advocacy is more important than ever. According to the Who’s Hungry 2024 report, there were 3.49 million client visits to Toronto food banks last year—nearly 1 million more than the year prior. Each one of these food bank visit represents a policy failure.

Send a letter to your Member of Parliament, Member of Provincial Parliament, and City Councillor using our easy online tool to advocate for affordable housing, stronger income supports, and solutions to poverty and food insecurity. Together, we can push for long-term solutions to ensure everyone has access to basic necessities and the right to live with dignity.
