You Can Help Families Experiencing Hunger this Holiday Season

The holiday season is right around the corner.

It’s time to start thinking about that “perfect gift” and deciding what to serve at your family celebrations.

But Linda’s choices are much tougher. Linda is a single mother and food bank client, struggling to recover from the devastating impact of the pandemic.

Even though she holds multiple jobs, every month Linda must choose between buying groceries for her family, paying the rent or purchasing other basic needs. Even though the city is starting to “open up”, Linda is far from gaining back the security she once had.

And she’s not alone.

In fact, in the past six months, Daily Bread Food Bank has seen client visits increase by more than 67% compared to the same months pre-COVID-19. And nearly a third of those clients include children.

To meet the increased demand, Daily Bread Food Bank has had to purchase almost double the amount of food so that families like Linda’s do not have to choose between a roof over their head or a healthy meal.

But we can’t do it alone.

By donating today, you can ensure that whenever one of our neighbours comes to the food bank, there is enough food to support their needs. No one should have to choose between the most basic necessities of life.

Your gift will help to ensure that we can:

  • Provide fresh, nutritious food like fruits, vegetables, protein, and dairy
  • Deliver food through our network of 189 food and meal programs
  • Purchase additional food to meet the ever-growing demand

Together, we can ensure no one in our city goes hungry — especially during the holiday season.

Although many food bank clients work full-time, they still cannot afford healthy food after paying their rent and other expenses. The food bank provides access to fresh and shelf-stable food so they can provide healthy meals for their family.

Food is a human right. No one should face barriers in accessing the nutritious food they need. Your support is vital in helping close the gap for families in our community.

Click here to give the gift of food today.

Thank you for opening your heart to our neighbours in need. Wishing you and your family a healthy and happy holiday season.
