Advocacy Housing Affordability
Housing Affordability
Lack of affordable housing is a driver of both poverty and food insecurity. According to Daily Bread’s 2020 Who’s Hungry report, 83% of survey respondents living in private market rentals (i.e., not subsidized housing) were paying more than half of their income on housing, putting them at high risk of homelessness.
Daily Bread advocates to increase supply of deeply affordable rental housing and expanded reach of housing benefits and rental supports to achieve the right to food and housing for all.
Examples of our work:
- Coalition and advisory council memberships: Housing Issues Now, Recovery for All, Toronto Alliance to End Homelessness, Toronto Drop-in Network.
- Advocating for implementation of the portable housing benefit which was announced by the Federal government as part of the National Housing Strategy.
- Hosting an affordable housing town hall.
