September 25 marks the first annual Rockin’ Raccoon Ride in support of Daily Bread Food Bank. Geared towards riders of all ages and abilities, Rockin’ Raccoon is a ride, not a race!
Riders can choose from one of three routes of increasing length and technical difficulty that have been carefully designed with every skill level in mind. They include a flat 20 KM ride with a gentle terrain for novice or junior riders, a 50 KM route with a few challenges for intermediate riders and a 100 KM ride for experienced riders with rougher rural roads and single-track trails.
“The spirit of this ride is not about getting to the finish line first, it’s about getting there with the people you want to ride with. You can ride whatever distance you want at whatever speed you want, it’s about coming out and having fun” – Bart Egnal, Race Organizer & Head Raccoon
There will be hydration stations along the route and riders will be greeted at the finish line with snacks and beverages. There will also be lots of fun and games and a few surprises to engage the younger riders as they wait for the more accomplished participants to complete their routes.
The registration fee for the event is $150, $50 of which will go to Daily Bread Food Bank. Thanks to Daily Bread’s purchasing power, every dollar donated equals one meal – your donation of $50 will feed a family of five for three days. Please consider increasing your donation at registration to $105 to feed that same family for a full week, or to $500 to provide food for a month.
For organizer, Bart Egnal, Daily Bread has long been established as a trusted champion in tackling food insecurity. “We live in a city of such affluence, wealth and privilege and to hear stories of kids that don’t have enough to eat, it hits home that we need to do something about it. This ride is a way to combine a passion with generating funds for an organization that has deep impact on a worthy cause.”
